I might also have an overheated wire in a cable that might have to be replaced. Had to remove the keft kick panel and there was a yellow wire coming from the lower harness up toward the dash. Turned out to be a wire getting pinched btween the emergency brake lever and the release stop. The bulb replacement can not be done 'from under the dash'. The bulbs are accessible from the back of the cluster. Mileage does not work, trip computer does. Good Luck Sep 25, 2008.

Good Luck Posted on Oct 14, 2008 Hi, it's possible the bulb is burned out or not making good contact with the circuit board. If it's good, see if you can clean the contact surfaces to get it working again. Next, remove the 4 screws that holds the cluster to the dash. The wire going from the fuse to the instrument cluster is red and yellow and the wire between the cluster and the alternator is lite green and red. Tighten the screws until fully driven, seated, not stripped.
I think the fuse is in the engine compartment fuse box but your owners manual would tell you for sure. If you do not see your particular vehicle listed, please call us at to discuss a quote for your cluster. I was driving along, and smelled what I felt was a smoking printed circuit board. You have to remove the cover on the steering column, and then the fascia, in front of the cluster. I looked down, and the digital fuel data center and climate control panel were dark. If there is not sufficient access to disengage the speedometer cable from the speedometer, it may be necessary to remove the speedometer cable at the transmission and pull cable through cowl, to allow room to reach the speedometer quick disconnect.
Good luck with your problem. I found a shorted capacitor on the Fuel data center circuit board. I also removed the fuel data center and the Climate control panel. Installation is quick and convenient- no scan tool necessary. I have not gotten that far in the troubleshooting yet.
